October Ministry Blog

Hola Amigos y Familia,

Wow, wow, wow, time is just flying by! October is here and I am now two months in to my apprenticeship. I have been enjoying doing ministry so much this year and getting to just dive deeper in my faith through the apprenticeship classes and leading one-on-one bible studies. We are almost done with our Old Testament class and reflecting back I just realize how little I knew and how much I pretended to know.

I'll share a snip of what I've been reflecting on these past few weeks. In our first large group meeting at Richland we had one of our campus pastors, Sandra, share on making Jesus our vision, passion, and king. Upon meditating on what this means I saw a need for making Jesus my king. I feel that I do have a vision for what our goal and mission is- having our students know Jesus and develop a heart for Jesus. It's something I feel I think have a grasp on otherwise I would not be where I'm at, if that makes sense. In making Jesus my passion, I feel I do a good job of pursuing him daily  and spending time with his people. Where I feel I drop the ball is making him king. I go about my daily activities thinking this is the "christian way", this is what I am supposed to do. The problem is I make it more about myself, and making it busy work and glorifying that rather than seeking to make Jesus the purpose of my interactions. I forget to include him in my daily activities, and think that I have to do things out of my own strength. So it's been a constant thought that I remind myself of in my quiet times and I'll share this question with you. When viewing Jesus as your vision, your passion, and your King which do you most struggle with grasping or embracing?

On another note we had Fall Camp this past month. Let me just tell you, I was super encouraged and excited to see so many of our Richland people join us for camp. Students really enjoyed getting to hear the student testimonials and getting to go on walk and talks where they would get to discuss ideas presented during the sessions. It was great getting to see them make new friendships and build community! Below I have attached some pictures of Fall Camp.

Once again, thanks you to all my supporters for joining me in mission with the UTDallas and Richland students! This is possible because of you guys.

Richland Fall Camp Group 2017

This is a memorable moment. A group of us decided to go for a hike Saturday night for our free time. We found this really neat fire pit that overlooked the city. We got to have some fellowship there singing songs and discussing some of the topics we had visited during camp that day. After, a group of us ended up getting lost in the woods and that was crazy fun even though in parts we were scared but it definitely brought us closer haha!

Here is our Student Testimony for the month of October.

  1. Hey Eddie! Thanks for the update about Richland. It is encouraging to me to hear how God is teaching you to make Him King through Sandra's preaching. Also, how did you get lost in the woods at camp? That sounds dangerous! Stay safe bud! Love you!
